Wadestown Civil Defence

Welcome to the Wadestown CD web site.

Here is a place where you can find out about:

  • What Civil Defence is doing in your area
  • How you can help out, both locally and around Wellington
  • How you can prepare yourself, your family and the other people you know to become more reslient and ready an emergency

We will be adding useful links and information to this site.

Operation Phoenix

On the 7th of November the Wellington Civil Defence Emergency Management Group (CDEM) and the Wellington Emergency Management Office (WEMO) will be running one of their annual exercises called Operation Phoenix. This year Operation Phoenix will also involve scenarios for the Wellington Civil Defence Centres. These scenarios will focus on communications, reconnaissance and welfare registrations and will run in the morning hopefully finishing at lunch.

I would like to get Wadestown, Wilton and Highland Park all involved in this. If you would be keen to help out on the event, please contact me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you know of anyone that would be interested in getting these emails or joining Civil Defence both in Wadestown and Wellington, please send them to http://www.cdwadestown.org.nz

Emergency Water Tip

You don't need water tanks or special containers to store emergency water.

Do you drink soft drink or juice from the plastic bottles? Why not use them to build up a water supply. Simply rinse them out once you have drunk the contents, fill them to the top with water and put the lid on trying to keep as little air in the bottle as possble.

Bottled water should be replaced every year and should be stored in a cool dark place - the garage is perfect.

Remember that water is essential to survive. You need atleast 3 litres of water per person per day. The more water you have, the better.

When is comes to prepardness use the KISS method and keep it simple.
